Description

Two volumes of "Selected Writings of Karl Olsen," edited by Stephen Olsen. Karl Olsen, born in Valley City, North Dakota, briefly attended St. Olaf College. Before the age of twenty, he tramped through Japan, Manchuria, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and Europe. Olsen served as an intelligence officer in the Pacific during World War II, and later assigned to one of the first detachments of the U.S. forces to enter Berlin in 1945. After the war he co-founded and served the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
